Prompt No. 1: My Favorite Flaw
What physical flaw do you have that others reject but you come to adore?
- Examples: your acne scars, crooked teeth, hairy upper lip, stretch marks, back rolls, etc.
- Why do you love it?
- What made you decide they (friends, family, co-workers, partner, media, society, culture, peers, neighbors, etc.) were wrong?
- Describe your turning point & what this “flaw” has taught you about yourself and the world.
SUGGESTIONS:
- Feel free to document that body part, so long as it’s not sexually graphic. Nudity is fine.
- Make it abstract or provide a symbol.
- Describe in words your body flaw and the aggravating reaction of others, as well as your epiphany that they were wrong.
- Share your favorite moments involving that body part in a poem, lyrics, flash essay, flash fiction, etc.
- When you stood up for yourself and told that accuser off.
- A compliment that made you realize how wonderful that unflaw truly is.
Submit whatever feels best to represent your adoration and growth of confidence despite–or maybe even because of–rejection.
